The power of Japanese culture

Gagaku performances using traditional musical instruments reverberating throughout the venue and the beat of Okinawa’s Ryukyu drums with their southern islands’ vibe: “Edo Tokyo Night Market” has a lot to offer. The Sword fighting chanbara plays are also impressive, while your heart will melt when you see the cute yokai monsters dancing cheerfully to the whole spectacle.

A member of the music ensemble explains each traditional musical instrument to the audience while each instrument plays on its own so that you can really hear the sound individually.
Dance and sword fighting performance by the group “Za SHOW”. The fans’ support was impressive!
Okinawan drum dance performance
At the Ryukyu dance, the members invited the audience to dance and drum with them together!

Try typical Japanese games

On one side of the grounds of the Kanda Myojin Shrine, a special area with lanterns and stands invite visitors to try out traditional Japanese games like kingyo sukui (goldfish scooping) and shateki (cork gun-shooting). If you just thought that you have seen these kinds of games in Japanese anime you are right! This night market is the perfect chance to try out these games for yourself!

Goldfish scooping (kingyo sukui) is a game where you scoop goldfish with a spoon-like tool made out of Japanese washi paper. You have to gently scoop the little fish into a bowl filled with water. People usually compete with each other who catches more fish before the paper breaks.
Target the toy you like and try to make it fall over by shooting a small cork at it. If you manage to do so, it’s yours!

“Edo Tokyo Night Market” is a wonderful event in a romantic setting with a nostalgic atmosphere. There is also a London bus shuttle connecting the Marunouchi (Tokyo Station) area, making the event easy to access.

What a great shuttle bus!
