Yukata Experience and a stroll through a Japanese garden to cool down at Hotel New Otani Tokyo

This time, I (Marei) tried the “Yukata Experience,” a service for staying guests at Hotel New Otani Tokyo (until September 4th), visited the “Shin-Edo Room,” a guest room with a wooden cypress bath, and then went on a stroll through the illuminated Japanese garden. To see the whole experience, please watch our video!

“Yukata Experience” – You don’t need to bring anything!

The hotel’s “Yukata Experience” is a limited service for staying guests. There is the “Take-home package” that allows you to take the yukata home as a souvenir and the fuss-free “Rental package” that allows you to experience a Japanese yukata empty-handed. When choosing the “Rental package”, you can leave the yukata in your room when you check out – super easy.

This is me choosing my yukata. Yukata for men and women come in various sizes and many colors and patterns.

This time, I treated myself to the hair and makeup option. The hair and makeup were beautifully done. Then, it was time to get dressed by professionals. The transformation into the gorgeous yukata happened in no time!

“Shin-Edo Room” – A guest room with a wooden cypress bathtub!

I also took a look at one of the “Shin-Edo Rooms”. These guest rooms make you feel the beauty of Japanese interior design and “WA” taste. With the concept of “Edo meets Tokyo”, the modern rooms pursue contemporary comfort while valuing Japanese tradition and culture.

The highlight of the “Shin-Edo Room” is the cypress bathtub which is available in all of these room types. You can smell the wooden aroma in the whole room. Spend a relaxing and healing time that will warm you to the core of your heart.

A pamphlet with illustrations explaining how to take a bath in the wooden bathtub (English and Japanese). No problem for first-timers!
Service of sake and snacks. These lemons are not for eating, but for putting into the bathtub.

Take a stroll through the Japanese garden in your yukata!

With a history of more than 400 years, the circuit-style Japanese garden is the symbol of Hotel New Otani Tokyo. The beautiful garden with a lot of greenery and seasonal flowers is open to guests and visitors (and it’s free)! I took a refreshing stroll through the Japanese garden (which is great for taking pictures in your yukata).

There are many photogenic spots where you can feel the Japanese “WA” taste!

There are many things to see in the vast Japanese garden, but the 6m high waterfall is a must-see!

The 6 meters (20 ft) high waterfall

Starting 30 minutes before sunset, the nighttime lighting in the Japanese garden is another highlight you can’t miss. The hotel uses eco-friendly LED lights for its tasteful illumination. Perfect when cooling down after a hot summer day.

The gorgeous big waterfall lit up at night.

When taking a walk in the illuminated Japanese garden, the magical sight makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the big city. Perfect refreshment!

Hotel New Otani Tokyo holds many wonderful summer events every year, so don’t forget to check them out!

This is me enjoying the limited-time event “Sparklers Night” for staying guests.
