The green road of “Chidori-ga-fuchi” is a 700 meters long promenade along the moat of the Imperial Palace. About 140 cherry trees line the green road. It’s a popular place in spring for “hanami” – cherry blossom viewing.

But actually, “Chidori-ga-fuchi” isn’t just a place for the cherry blossom season. It’s a refreshing oasis all year round!

All you have to do is rent a boat. When you walk along the green road, you will see a boat pier where you can rent rowboats and paddle boats (pedalos).

At the “Chiyoda City Floating Lantern Festival” people write their wishes on lanterns. After that, some of the participants chosen by lottery are allowed to row a boat and let everyone’s lantern float on the moat. The gentle light of the 700 lanterns is a very beautiful and romantic sight! Every year, more and more tourists from everywhere in the world are participating in the festival.
