One must-go event when you spend the summer in Japan is “Bon Odori”! At this summer festival, locals and visitors dance together to traditional Japanese music. One of the biggest “Bon Odori” events in Tokyo is held at Hibiya Park, Tokyo. Join us at the Bon Odori dance and get the most out of summer in Japan! Let’s dance!
“Bon Odori” is a dance where people dance to the rhythm of Japanese drums slowly around a stage (or tower) with a live band or professional dancers on it. However, at the “Hibiya Park Bon Dance Festival”, everybody dances around a big, colorfully lighted up fountain. That’s beautiful – and refreshing!
“Bon Odori” is not difficult at all. By imitating the movements of the experienced people around you, you’ll get the hang of each dance in no time! Bon Odori dances are very charming and popular among every age group.
During the event, residents, office workers on the way home from work, students and tourists gather at Hibiya Park and dance together. Everyone is welcome! Also, there are many fashionable people wearing yukata (= a summer kimono). It’s a very colorful and relaxing festival – great for the whole family.
If you are hungry, head to the food stalls. There, you will find popular Japanese summer festival snacks such as yakisoba and shaved ice!
