Meet Peter Rabbit™ and his friends for a special afternoon tea at the ”Imperial Hotel, Tokyo”

To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the publication of the famous storybook “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, a special afternoon tea event is now held at the “Imperial Hotel, Tokyo”! We visited the hotel and experienced the elegant and cute menu inspired by the characters and stories that appeared in the picture book series born in 1902 in the United Kingdom.

Peter Rabbit™ Birthday Afternoon Tea

At the entrance to “The Imperial Lounge Aqua”. This is where you enter the world of Peter Rabbit™!

Beatrix Potter™, the creator of the world-famous “Peter Rabbit™” storybook series, was a British-born writer of mostly children’s literature. Aside from her creative activities, she was also running a farm, a prize-winning sheep breeder and keenly interested in land preservation. The Lake District, which is also home for Peter Rabbit™, was a special place for Beatrix, and her deep feelings for nature can is very present in her work.

Peter, the rabbit who is the main character in the Peter Rabbit™ book series, is a mischievous boy. He experience a variety of adventures with his family and friends. So what would the menu look like if his story was recreated into a afternoon tea set?

The lounge has a spectacular view over the whole Imperial Palace area. What a relaxing sight!

The afternoon tea menu booklet contains information about the “Peter Rabbit™” books and the scenes used for each dish. If you are familiar with the story, you’ll be amazed at how each episode is reflected in the menu!

The chefs must have read every sigle storybook to get inspiration for his creative creations. Amazing!

First, I had a welcome drink.

The original welcome tea “Carrot Berry Ice Tea” is a surprising combination of carrot juice and strawberry syrup. It had a sweet taste, which was very refreshing.

The afternoon tea set includes an extensive drink menu with free refills and drink changes. Enjoy different types of black tea, coffee, Japanese tea, and original blended tea. The delicious black tea won the 2021 award for “Delicious Tea Shops” certified by the Japan Tea Association. So don’t forget to choose at least one of their delicous teas (especially the blended ones!).

Then, the tea stand finally arrived. Look at this gorgeous sight!

The three-tiered tea stand’s pastries decorated with flowers, vegetables and fruits, the soups and salads are so adorable that I hesitated to start eating.

Carrot cake and blackberry roll cake on the first tier, gorgeous flowers, fruits, and a “Flower garden tart”. So cute that you can’t help but take a picture!

Second-tier with scones, veal and ham pie, and onion soup

Pain aux raisins, truffle egg cream / smoked duck / tomato consomme jule, risotto croquette and bouquet salad

Usually, afternoon tea starts begining from the bottom plate, but I love scones, so I started from the second tier. The scones came with British clotted cream, jam and honey. They were just perfect!

I really enjoeyed reading about the episodes of Peter Rabbit™ while tasting each dish. It was delicious! What an elegant and extraordinary experience! I felt as if I were traveling through the world of Peter Rabbit™ and his friends.

The “Rendezvous Lounge” on the 1st floor of the main building also helds a special event. The menu features Peter Rabbit™ birthday cakes and mocktails. In addition, there is a special accommodation plan with tickets for the “120th Anniversary Peter Rabbit™ Exhibition” being held at the Setagaya Museum of Art. Furthermore, from April 22nd (Friday), a new meal, the “Peter Rabbit™ Night Late Show Plate”, will start in “The Imperial Lounge His Aqua”. This allows you to enjoy the world of Peter Rabbit even after 18:00!
